Exhibition of linocuts by Chris Brown

English Vernacular
An exhibition of prints by Christopher Brown
St Jude’s Gallery, Norfolk

This exhibition has just opened at St Jude’s, a gallery in Itteringham, Norfolk, which I have been meaning to visit for some time. Chris Brown learnt the art of the linocut from Edward Bawden and there is a clear influence in his prints, not only in the subject matter (English Vernacular sums it up pretty neatly) but also in the humour.

Here are a few of my favourites. Click on the links below each image to visit the St Jude’s site, where you can buy the prints.

Mr Pickles

Spy

Rude Cat
I’m not usually a fan of prints of cats, but I like this one for its in-your-face cheek. Incidentally, Bawden also loved cats.

English Vernacular runs until 28th May. St Jude’s also stock/represent Angie Lewin, Mark Hearld, Chris Brown and the ubiquitous Rob Ryan.
